AFP-TN Calls Out Nashville Mayor O’Connell’s Grocery Tax Gimmick

NASHVILLE- Americans for Prosperity Tennessee (AFP-TN) is calling out Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s grocery tax gimmick, touting a half-cent cut to local grocery taxes as an attempt at relief for Nashvillians.  The move comes one year after hundreds of Nashville taxpayers lined the streets outside the State of the Metro address to protest Mayor O’Connell’s proposed property tax hike.  AFP-TN called the move insulting crumbs after the big bite.

Pamela Furr, AFP-TN Grassroots Director, released the following statement: 

“The mayor comes back with a half-cent grocery tax gimmick and record housing talk like it erases the pain. Nashville’s spending addiction forces higher taxes on working families.  A half-cent grocery tax cut may sound nice in a speech, but it won’t keep families in their homes or stop the exodus of longtime Nashvillians priced out by Metro’s fiscal choices.”
