Senate Passes SJR1 with 2/3 Majority
Nashville, TN – Yesterday, the Tennessee Senate passed SJR001, which will amend the constitution to put a ban on statewide property taxes. To pass, SJR001 needed a 2/3 majority support of the Senate. It will be on the ballot for voters’ approval in 2026.
AFP-TN State Director Tori Venable released the following statement:
“We are thrilled that the Senate passed this property tax resolution today. Banning statewide property taxes has been one of our top priorities this session, and we’re grateful that the legislature is working to protect the Volunteer Way for future generations.
“We’d like to give a special thanks to Sen. Haile and the legislators who are fighting for the best interests of taxpayers and ensuring the Tennessee government remains limited and accountable, paving the way for a better and more prosperous life for all Tennesseans.”
